May 17-23 is National Dog Bite Prevention Week because any dog can bite. The AVMA has put together the infographic below to show that dog bites are a serious problem.

In addition to these statistics, the Insurance Information Institute reported that dog bites and other dog-related injuries accounted for more than a third of homeowners’ liability insurance claims in the US in 2014, with 16,550 claims being paid out for a total of over $530 million.

The good news is, there are things you can do to prevent dog bites. Visit DoggoneSafe.com for many excellent resources on dog bite prevention for children and adults, as well as support resources for people who have been bitten.
