Cats

  • Amantadine is an antiviral agent. It also may be useful to treat chronic pain when administered in combination with other drugs.

  • Aminophyllin is used to relieve cough, wheezing, shortness of breath and troubled breathing. The medication works by relaxing the air passages of the lungs, thus increasing the amount of air flowing into the lungs.

  • Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant. Amitriptyline has been prescribed to treat separation anxiety in your dog or to treat excessive grooming, urine spraying or anxiety in cats. In birds, amitriptyline may be used for behavior problems such as feather picking. This medication may also be used to prevent itching in dogs, to treat neuropathic pain or to decrease the signs of urinary tract inflammation in cats.

  • Amlodipine besylate is a calcium channel blocking agent used to treat high blood pressure in cats. This medication has also been used to decrease blood pressure in dogs with chronic kidney disease.

  • Ammonium chloride is used to make the urine more acidic, to dissolve certain types of urinary stones, to enhance the excretion of certain types of drugs or to enhance the efficacy of some antibiotics when treating urinary tract infections.

  • Amoxicillin is a synthetic penicillin-type antibiotic effective against a range of infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. This medication has been prescribed for your pet to treat a bacterial infection.

  • Amoxicillin/Clavulanic acid (also known as Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium) is a synthetic penicillin-type antibiotic used to treat infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. This medication may be used to treat urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections and periodontal (gum) disease caused by susceptible organisms.

  • Ampicillin is a semi-synthetic penicillin-type antibiotic effective against a range of infections caused by gram positive and gram negative bacteria. This medication has been prescribed for your pet to treat a bacterial infection

  • Amyloidosis occurs when proteins called “amyloid” are deposited outside of cells in various tissues and organs, causing tissue and organ dysfunction.

  • The anal sacs are two small pouches located on either side of the anus at approximately the four o'clock and eight o'clock positions. The walls of the sac produce a foul smelling fluid which is released whenever the cat passes a bowel movement. The anal sacs or their ducts can become inflamed or infected due to a variety of causes. Most cats will respond well to pain relief medications and antibiotics (for several days until the swelling and inflammation have subsided. If a cat has several episodes of anal sac disease, and diet or supplements do not relieve the problem, the anal sacs can be removed surgically.
