Cats + Medications

  • Enrofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. This medication has been prescribed for your pet to treat a bacterial infection. It may be prescribed to treat urinary tract, skin or respiratory tract infections.

  • Enrofloxacin otic (brand name Baytril® Otic) an antibacterial and antifungal agent used in the treatment of ear infections in dogs and cats. Its use in cats off label or extra-label. This medication should not be used in dogs that are allergic to quinolones or in young puppies. Hearing loss and transient vestibular disorders may occur in some pets. If your pet has trouble with balance, stop using the medication and contact your veterinarian. Some medications may interact with enrofloxacin so it is important to tell your veterinarian about any medications that your pet is taking.

  • Ephedrine is used to help control urinary incontinence (urine leakage) in dogs and cats. It may also be used to open up the air passages of the lungs and to relieve nasal congestion. Ephedrine is an alpha-receptor stimulant.

  • Famciclovir (brand name Famvir®) is an anti-viral medication used to treat feline herpesvirus (FHV-1). Famciclovir comes in tablet form; however your veterinarian may compound it into a liquid form. The usual side effects of famciclovir include decreased appetite and increased amounts of urine. Any side effects should be reported to your veterinarian.

  • Famotidine is a histamine-blocking agent. It helps reduce the amount of gastric acid secreted in the stomach. Famotidine has been used for treating or helping to manage gastric or duodenal ulcers. It has also been used to treat gastritis and reflux conditions.

  • Fenbendazole is a broad-spectrum de-wormer that is used to treat many of the intestinal parasites that affect pet animals.

  • Fipronil is an antiparasitic agent prescribed by your veterinarian for treatment of fleas and ticks in dogs and cats.

  • Your veterinarian has prescribed fluconazole to treat ringworm or another fungal infection.

  • Fludrocortisone acetate belongs to the family of medicines called steroids. It is classified as a corticosteroid. The body naturally produces similar steroids that are necessary to maintain the balance of certain minerals and water for good health. This medication has been used for the treatment of Addison's disease (adrenocortical insufficiency). It has also been used as adjunctive therapy when there is an excess of potassium in the blood.

  • Flunixin meglumine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication used for treating inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disease.
